We headed out to Monteverde for a few days. Our first stop was the Bat Jungle! We learned so much about bats!
Ethan says: I learned that the main source of food for cave animals is guano (bat poop). I also learned bats are super useful to humans. One bat can eat 1000 mosquitos in an hour. We saw pictures of a bat cave in Texas that has over 20 million bats in it. It takes the bats 6 hours to just fly out to eat. Bats are not birds... they are not even related. Bats are cool!
Joshua says: This experiment let us hear like bats do. Even a whisper sounded like a yell.
Maddie says: I loved seeing the skeleton of the bat and how its bone structure is so much like ours with its fingers. It was fascinating.
Amelia says: Bats eat fruit and don't want to scare people. They are really a good animal. They are not scary.
The next day we hiked in a private reserve called Curi-Cancha. It was beautiful!
Christian loved the pattern of these trees overhead. The sky looks like a river. |
We enjoyed the hummingbird garden so much. It is amazing to hear the sound of the wings as the hummingbird flies by. |
Our tour guide Jorge took this selfie as we hiked in the rainforest. |
And then we headed out for a traditional Costa Rica lunch....
shakes look good!
