Last weekend we had the awesome opportunity to explore the rainforest in the dark of night and to see all of the nocturnal animals awaken. It was amazing! Here are a few of the beautiful animals we got to see!
#5 on our hunt... the red eyed tree frog |
One of our favorite birds here.... the blue crowned mot-mot. |
Can you see the tarantula hiding in this log? |
We saw three eyelash pit vipers this night. |
Ethan says: It was so fun and kind of scary. It was cool seeing three different colored pit vipers.
Look carefully and you can see the snake wrapped around the red flower. |
Mom says: This was a true adventure! Especially when the ants (they are known as quita calzone ants... meaning "get your underwear off" ants... because they attack your whole body and bite!) starting biting the kids feet and they started screaming... then the tour guide got lost and said, "I don't know where we are!" It was muddy and wet and there were so many noises around us... It was truly awesome! My favorite part was when we all shut our flashlights off and stood in the pure darkness with the sounds of the rainforest all around us!
Amelia says: It was fun and I really liked the tree frog! When I saw it, I wanted to hold it. I also saw a kinkajou up in a tree. It looked like a huge cat with a long tail and ears like a cat. It can use its tail like a monkey - like another foot. I also saw another animals eyes shine bright green in the night.
Dad says: I have seen the kinajou!
Julie says: It gave me the heebie-geebies but was amazing to see the animals in their natural habitat!
Joshua says: It was so cool seeing the special red eyed tree frog that only lives in Costa Rica. It was cool seeing all of the snakes. I loved it!
