About this blog....

Our family is on a six month adventure in Costa Rica. Before leaving, our friends, the Cox family, gave us a precious gift... a photo scavenger hunt of things for us to discover and experience in Costa Rica. This is our account of how the scavenger hunt is going.... along with other pictures and thoughts about our time in Costa Rica.

The Jade Museum and #55 Eating Guanabana sherbert

On Thursday we had the chance to visit the Jade Museum in downtown San Jose. We had so much fun learning and exploring... We were so happy that Annie and Sarah were here to experience it with us!
Maddie says: Visiting the Jade Museum was really neat. It was amazing seeing the Pre-Colombian artifacts. We learned that jade is not native to Costa Rica. Most of it came from Guatemala. I was surprised by how important the shamans were in the early culture of Costa Rica.
Ethan says: This big piece of jade has been cut and polished on one end. It is from Guatemala and shows that the indigenous tribes in Costa Rica had trade with tribes in Guatemala.

Here Josh and Ethan are learning how the jade pieces were cut and carved using water and stones.
Maddie, Annie and Ethan pose in front of one of the mysterious spheres.

Joshua says: It was cool learning about the indigenous tribes and the tools that they used.

This was a beautiful mural in the Jade Center showing pre-Colombian life.

We had a wonderful traditional lunch of patecones after the museum.... and then we headed to ice cream! Ethan decided to try the Guanabana sherbert since it was on our scavenger hunt.... and
Ethan says: Yum, yum, yum... I wish we had it in the United States! It was delicious!
